Assistance for Malaysian Entrepreneurs to Join Industry 4.0

If you are concerned about not being able to achieve Industry 4.0 or not sure even where to start, help and guidance are available from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).

With Industry 4.0 being an important focal point in businesses now, the Industry4WRD: National Policy on Industry 4.0 was launched on 31 October 2018. This policy aims to drive digital transformation of the manufacturing and related services sectors in Malaysia. The enablers for the transformation process have been identified as funding, infrastructure, regulations, skills and talents, as well as technology. However, how can you know if you are ready to adopt Industry 4.0 or have some catching up to do?

Well, you can apply for the Industry4WRD readiness assessment to find out. If you are worried that it will cost a hefty sum, you will be happy to know that 500 SMEs will be selected for free assessments, while others can get tax exemptions of up to RM27,000 on the readiness assessment fees. For companies that need funding for upgrading to Industry 4.0, they can apply for various loans and grants. For more info, you can visit the MITI website at Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii)

MARii was previously known as the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) and is an agency under MITI. Since 2014, MARii has developed numerous technology adoption programmes to cater to industry needs. They cover everything from the product design stage to aftersales service. The programmes offered include Design Engineering and Prototyping (DEP), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Automotive i-Cloud Computing, and MARii Automotive Garage Information System (MAGIS). Anticipating that Industry 4.0 will require businesses to embrace new technologies and new systems, MARii started its Industry 4.0 programme in 2016 to help the industry players to acquire the necessary new skills in order to be well prepared for the new developments.

MARii’s programme caters to nine pillars to accelerate the adoption of Industry 4.0 in the automotive industry. The nine pillars are Big Data, Cloud Computing, System Integrator, Additive Manufacturing, Internet of Things, Cybersecurity, Simulation, Autonomous Robots, and Augmented Reality. Starting in 2018, MARii has provided Additive Manufacturing Training and Augmented Reality Workshops. Over 2,400 technical talents and 2,200 companies in the automotive industry have benefitted from MARii’s programmes, particularly product and process design, design validation, and workshop inventory enhancement. If you are interested to find out more about MARii’s technology adoption programmes, you can visit its website at, or contact MARii through its various social media channels at @MARiiMalaysia (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram).
