Malaysian women are as likely as men to be entrepreneurs, and just as likely to have started the business out of necessity, according to a report by The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Report 2018. What becomes a make-and-break point for female entrepreneurs however is challenges such as lack of support, lack of confidence and biases towards their male counterparts.
In hopes of spurring more female participation in entrepreneurship, the government spent RM2.3 billion on 10 women entrepreneurship programmes in the same year. Continuing the momentum is the Women Entrepreneurship Convention 2019, as part of the Minggu Usahawan Nasional 2019. The convention taking place on 29th and 30th August in MAEPS, Serdang, will feature exhibition booths, panel sessions, forums and key appearances from noted female entrepreneurs and celebrities.
During the two day programme which runs concurrently with the other Minggu Usahawan Nasional 2019 programmes, a curated showcase exhibition of Malaysia Women Entrepreneurs will take place. Not only that, the programme will also present the Women Entrepreneur Award 2019 to outstanding female entrepreneurs here in Malaysia. Another key highlight of the programme is an exclusive and intimate conversation session with the Minister of Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan bin Md Yusof.
Often, we hear that ‘the future is female’ and Malaysia’s Ministry of Entrepreneur Development is here to support realising the phrase for female Malaysian entrepreneurs. Supported by the new policy framework within the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030, women entrepreneurs are geared to be a significant contributor to Malaysia’s goal of becoming an Entrepreneur Nation with 50% GDP contribution coming from the entrepreneurship industry by 2030.
