NTT Com Startup Challenge 2018 Malaysia Gave Valuable Insights and Experiences For Startups to Scale Up Globally

Located in Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre – the peak of NTT Com Startup Challenge 2018 Malaysia held on Thursday, 11th of October 2018. NTT Com Startup Challenge was officially opened by the speech from CEO of NTT MSC, Mr. Taichi Hiramatsu, continued with speech by Ashran Dato’ Ghazi, CEO of MAGIC and Dr. Lau Cher Han, Founder of LEAD. This event aimed to be a part of innovations for Asian startups environment including Malaysia.

NTT Com Startup Challenge continued by panel discussion about startup ecosystem in Malaysia. Panel discussion was presented by our respected speakers from different backgrounds such as the best startups and investors in Asia, consist of Brendan Rakphongphairoj, CEO of Qontak, as a moderator, along with Norhizam Abdul Kadir – Vice President Growth Ecosystem Development Division of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Audrey Ling – CEO of Next Academy and Bryan Chung – Director of Investments of Mountain Partners Malaysia. Each panelists shared their thoughts through their experiences, from the marketing side, investment landscape, to technology trends which very useful for startups to grow bigger.

They succeeded in grabbing attention to more than 350 startups in Malaysia and the selected Top 10 startups were given a chance to pitch, they are SmartPeep, MallDash, Tanahmu Aplikasi, MBack Pay, Favoriot, Upal, Glueck Technologies, CapitalBay, Wonderland Technologies, and DoctorOnCall. Each startups were given 4 minutes to pitch and 2 minutes for the judges to ask questions. These startups get high anticipation from 600 attendees. From those wonderful 10 startups, DoctorOnCall became the winner of NTT Com Startup Challenge 2018 Malaysia, followed by MallDash who won the Best Innovation Award, and Best Marketing Award received by SmartPeep. Winners were able to get a cash of USD 10,000 ICT facilities from NTT Communications, free use co-working space at Common Ground sponsored by MDEC and free marketing or code course from Next Academy, as well as trip to Japan to discuss strategic partnerships with NTT Communications Japan.

NTT Com Startup Challenge 2018 MY succeed in being a bridge between Malaysian startups and investors, startups were able to network with top speakers and investors, as well as their startup peers and gained valuable insights and experiences. NTT Communications Startup Challenge 2018 will be continue in Vietnam on 22nd of November 2018.
